The works of this incredible sculptor, architect, and painter are spread almost everywhere around Rome. Bernini was an Italian artist and perhaps the greatest sculptor of the 17th century.

He created the Baroque style of sculpture and developed it to such an extent that other artists are of only minor importance in any discussion of that style. When he died at 81, after having served eight popes, he was widely considered not only Europe’s greatest artist but also one of its greatest men. He was the last of Italy’s remarkable series of universal geniuses, and the Baroque style he helped create was the last Italian style to become an international standard. Set off on a tour with your private guide to discover Bernini’s impressive masterpieces.

Start from the Church of Santa Maria della Vittoria, where you will see the famous statue of the Ecstasy of St. Maria Teresa. Stroll around the historical center and reach Piazza Barberini, where you can admire the Triton Fountain and the Fountain of the Bees.

Head to the Basilica of Sant’Andrea which houses the two monumental Statues of the Angels by Bernini. Continue your experience in Piazza del Popolo, dominated by the north gate of the Aurelian Wall, the inner facade of which was designed by Bernini for Pope Alessandro VII. Here you will also marvel at Bernini’s architectural plans for the churches of Santa Maria del Popolo, Santa Maria di Montesanto, and Santa Maria dei Miracoli.

End your tour with the view of the Bridge of Castel Sant’Angelo. Admire the statues of the Angels holding the instruments of the Passion.
